Middle School and High School

Middle school and high school groups meet during Village Nights to plan and lead the Wednesday night worship service. They are also active in community service events, youth Sunday, retional worship/fellowship events with other churches, and faith formation.

Upcoming Events

Confirmation classes are available for youth, beginning in the 7th grade. This is an intensive two year study that explores the Lutheran understanding of the Ten Commandmants, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, Baptism, and Holy Communion. Opportunities are offered for the youth to live out their faith in the congregation and community. This prepares the students to make their confession of faith in Jesus Christ.

The Order of St. John provides youth with the opportunity to serve as acolytes and crucifers during worship services. Participation enhances their understanding of the liturgy and worship service. Participants begin this program when they begin Confirmation classes and can continue until graduation from high school. Annual training is provided.

There are opportunities for youth to participate in the music of the church. These include choirs, bell choir, and special instrumental programs.

The Virginia Synod hosts youth gatherings at Eagle Eyrie Conference Center in Lynchburg, VA. All of these gatherings are wonderful opportunities to meet other Lutheran youth from around the state and share in fellowship, Bible study, small groups, and worship.

  • 7th Day is for 5th and 6th graders, and is held in March.
  • Lost and Found is for youth in grades 7 and 8, and is held in November.
  • Winter Celebration for all senior high youth is held in January.

In addition, senior high youth can attend KAIROS, an intensive faith formation week held at Roanoke College in June.

The synod events are wonderful opportunities for youth to deepen their faith formation and develop life long friendships. Every three years a National Youth Gathering is held for senior high youth. Lutheran youth spend a week in fellowship, community service, Bible study, worship, and exploring colleges, careers, and opportunities to serve.
